ST. JOE HIRING NEW HEAD FOOTBALL COACH

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Qualified candidates should also possess strong communication and organizational skills that will lend themselves into a positive working environment.

 

• The candidate must demonstrate good working knowledge of diverse schemes and/or systems and be adept in coaching the skills and techniques necessary to play competitive high school football in the State of West Virginia

 

• Previous experience coaching football at the high school level or beyond required.

 

• General knowledge of coaching techniques and procedures.

 

• Demonstrated ability to instruct and supervise student-athletes and coaching staff.

 

• Communicate effectively using a variety of methods, styles and techniques appropriate for the audience.

 

• The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, community, parents, and students.

 

• Effectively and efficiently utilize Word, Excel, and PowerPoint or appropriate alternative software to the extent required to perform essential job functions.

 

Must hold WVSSAC coach’s certification or hold WVDE teaching or substitute permit. (Or be willing to obtain it through training)

 

RESPONSIBILITES:

• The coach will always serve as a mentor and exhibit strong leadership skills with a focus on player and staff development.

 

• The coach must value sportsmanship, integrity and character development.

 

• Act as a role model and leader at all times, gaining the respect and trust of the student-athletes, parents, and coaching colleagues.

 

• Appreciation and respect for the Catholic faith and a commitment to the teaching of the Catholic Church.

 

• Work with the Athletic Director and Principal to ensure that the mission of the school is implemented within the football program.

 

• Work with the Athletic Director and Assistant Athletic Director to advance programs for the greater good of the athletic program, supervise athletic events during the off-season, plan and maintain the program’s budget, and coordinate game schedules.

 

• Work with the Athletic Director to schedule away game transportation.

 

• Work cooperatively with the head coaches of our athletic department in order to operate a well-balanced athletic department.

 

• Establish opportunities for your coaching staff to grow in their profession.

 

• Therefore, seek professional development and clinics that your coaching staff can attend.

 

• Demonstrate how virtue is formed and practiced within the football program by establishing accountability, hard work, and unselfishness.

 

• Emphasize team camaraderie by planning and supervising team bonding experiences through team retreats and/or team building events.

 

• Will ensure that athletes are aware that they represent themselves, their family, community, and St. Joseph Central Catholic High School at all times.

 

• The coach will share the responsibilities of participating in and encouraging the school activities of students.

 

• Whether in the classroom, hallway, or other parts of the campus, the coach will accept an equitable share of general responsibility for order and discipline.

 

• Accept regular and additional or occasional responsibilities such as supervising students in the gymnasium, lunchroom, at assemblies, duties, and during other student activities or special events.

 

• Agrees to accept an equitable share of general responsibility for order and discipline in the school.

 

• Exemplify service to others and help develop moral responsibility by participating in team service projects in our community and school.

 

• Model inclusion when welcoming new athletes, despite skill level or experience.

 

• Secure officials for all home football games.

 

• Develop season-long, as well as individual game plans.

 

• Evaluate athlete performance and provide real-time suitable feedback, balancing feedback with positivity and motivation.

 

• Oversee football-specific strength and conditioning program with our Strength & Conditioning Coach.

 

• Make recommendations regarding the hiring and/or retention of assistant coaches.

 

• Emphasize the importance of academic excellence and assist in monitoring and maintaining high academic standards for members of the football program.

 

• Organize, schedule and oversee off-season programs and summer camps within the structure of the overall athletic department.

 

• Develop relationships and outreach opportunities with our feeder schools and middle-school football organizations in Huntington and the surrounding area.

 

• Become part of the greater Central Catholic community by attending school events that lend themselves to establishing relationships.

 

• Ensure consistency and relative uniformity in the implementation of and execution of offensive and defensive schemes for both varsity and JV teams.

 

• Learn and adhere to rules specific to WVSSAC football competitions.

 

• Advocate on behalf of deserving players eligible for postseason awards/accolades and collegiate scholarships.

 

• Attend sectional/regional and state coaches’ meetings as required.

 

• Organize equipment/uniform inventory and distribution.

 

• Attend school staff developmental meetings, clinics and other professional activities to improve and enhance coaching and school performance.

 

• Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Principal, Athletic Director, or other appropriate administrators.
